MY BACKGROUND&GOAL

With a passion for hospitality management, social media, and all things hotel marketing. The hospitality program taught by faculty from the William F. Harrah College of Hospitality with the mission to deliver resources and experiences that empower me to dive deep into the industry. The projects present the perfect crossroad between hospitality and business where I can thrive.   • Being a front desk agent check guests in and out of the hotel in accordance with all brand standards.

  • Assisted Club members to meet their needs and requests via phone and in person

Hotel Overview

SpringHill Suites by Marriott San Antonio seamlessly blends design and functionality, offering modern amenities to keep guests refreshed and focused. Spacious suites and the vibrant lobby offer flexible spaces perfect for working or relaxing. Guests can take the stress out of travel with free Wi-Fi, a relaxing pool, and a fitness center. San Antonio is close to the Mexican border, so the hotel mainly attracts businessmen and tourists from Mexico. Some of the guests are business people from government departments and insurance companies in San Antonio. The hotel has 23 employees,128 guest rooms and 6 departments( front desk, food&breakfast, sales, housekeeping, laundry, and technology department).

Job Duties

Front Desk

  • Provide the highest quality of service at all times 

  • Promptly and effectively deal with any guest complaints or requests

  • Check guests in and out of the hotel in accordance with all brand standards

  • Accurately maintain all guest’s folios including but not limited to posting payments, posting incidental charges, and rebates when necessary

  • Effectively communicate with other desk shifts and the management team all important and relevant information that occurred during your shift

Food&Breakfast 

  • Engage and provide personalized service to all guests .

  • Keep the breakfast buffet and seating area clean at all times ,

  • Take inventory of all food, beverages, and supplies and assist with ordering  to ensure we have the proper products for our guests

  • Maintain and keep the kitchen clean and organized at all times in accordance with all local health department regulations

Housekeeping

  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization in all storage areas

  • Restocking all storage areas with supplies 

  • Thoroughly cleaning all aspects of the public areas 

  •  Reporting any type of problem immediately 

  •  Delivering any special request or guest request items to the guest rooms

  • Assisting as a van driver when necessary

Sales Coordinator

  • Answer calls or meets with customers that come to the hotel inquiring about group corporate, or meeting business

  • Participate and assist with any sales related functions such as lobby lizard, evening socials, etc

  •  Maintain a high level of attention to detail and accuracy when preparing agreements, contracts, BEO’s, etc to be presented to clients

  •  Assist and prepare reports as necessary

  •  Ensure all group and meeting events are to the client’s expectations by ensuring all client needs are communicated to the hotel leadership team and associates 

  • Participate in revenue management calls and provide information as necessary to assist with making solid revenue decisions for the hotel to drive revenues

       Work Experience

 

I went to SpringHill Suites by Marriott San Antonio for a three-month internship during Aug 27th to Dec 8th, so that I could understand the process of hotel operation, management, service, culture, and strengthening the integration of hotel management theory and practice. I learned the spirit of service in the hotel and how to cultivate my sense of service.

 

SpringHill Suites by Marriott San Antonio are divided into six departments; human resources, sales, front office, housekeeping, laundry, food, and breakfast. The hotel human resources department arranged for me to work according to the actual operational needs of the hotel, in the front office, housekeeping, and food and breakfast respectively. This internship taught me how to serve people, how to listen to guests’ requests and solve problems, and how to be responsible for completing tasks.

 

Departmental differences also determine the different content of our work, different quality of work, different ways of serving customers. For students, working at food and breakfast is directly providing service to customers. Therefore, the employees who work in this department should have a warm and extroverted personality, which is conducive to promoting dishes and achieving maximum income. For the Housekeeping Department, it seldom contacts customers, but it has a lot of work and needs to be very attentive to detail.
